It seems like Kelly Ripa and Meghan Markle have quite a bit in common—and no, we're not talking about their penchant for unique fashion (although that's certainly high on the list). We're talking about their shared interest in feminist icon and activist, Gloria Steinem.
If you recall, the Duchess of Sussex sat down with the 86-year-old journalist in August to chat about representation and the importance of voting. During the interview, Steinem dropped some serious wisdom about taking action. She said, “If you don't vote you don't exist. What worries me the most are young people, who I understand are the least likely to vote, and I can understand the feeling that they don't think they have an impact, and yet it's more important for them to vote than anyone else because they're going to be alive long after I am, and they're going to be suffering the consequences.”
Fast forward to October and Live with Kelly and Ryan co-host, Ripa, also followed suit by sitting down to chat with the feminist icon about her upcoming film, Not Done: Women Remaking America.
The movie, which premieres on Oct. 27 on PBS, will chronicle the last five years of the women's movement and how they are continuing to fight for equality.
It comes as no surprise that both Ripa and Markle share an interest in Steinem's views and her work, especially since they are proud feminists themselves. And of course, the same can also be said for their husbands. In 2018, Ripa publicly praised Mark Consuelos for supporting the #HeForShe campaign. And during Markle's chat with Steinem, both she and Prince Harry confirmed that he supports the women's movement.
She told the activist, "I love that when [Harry] just came in he said, 'You know that I’m a feminist too, right Gloria?! It's really important to me that you know that.'"
We get the feeling that Kelly and Meghan would instantly hit it off if they ever sat down for a chat.
