Kate Middleton Proves She’s a Stickler for Royal Protocol by Shrugging Off William’s PDA

Kate Middleton is playing by the rules when it comes to PDA, at least for her Mary Berry Christmas special.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge filmed their BBC One special A Berry Royal Christmas (which aired on Monday, December 16, at 8:30 p.m), where they prepared an on-camera feast to reward charity workers and volunteers who are donating their time during the holidays.

The program was full of sweet moments that gave us a glimpse into the royal couple’s relationship and family life, but there was one in particular that caught fans' attention.

At the very end of the hour-long event, William and Kate are hosting a party for local volunteers who will have to work on Christmas. As the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are seated by the fire, talking to a group, William places his hand on Kate's shoulder, which she then quickly brushes away.

Royals fans were quick to express their thoughts on Twitter—some thought that Middleton was merely re-positioning herself in her chair, while others believed she was simply trying to stick to royal protocol.

If you didn’t know, the royal family usually shies away from public displays of affection (or PDA), including hand-holding and kissing. However, we have seen some members push the protocol envelope from time to time.

So what was with Kate's quick shoulder movement? Our money's on the duchess being a stickler for protocol.
