Rare Video Captures Kate Middleton Giving Her Poppy Brooch to a Young Boy

Kate Middleton is becoming more likeable by the day, and her latest outing is proof.

This week, Princess Catherine stepped out for a solo appearance at the Colham Manor Children’s Centre in London. (She’s a patron of the Maternal Mental Health Alliance.)

During the outing, the royal spoke with health professionals, clients and children who showed up at the event. While chatting with a young boy named Akeem, the Princess of Wales used her go-to parenting move and then gave him a thoughtful gift.

In the clip (see above), Princess Catherine demonstrates her tried-and-true parenting move by bending down to meet the child’s eye-level. FYI, it fosters open communication and creates a comfortable environment.

When Akeem asks for her name, the royal responds, “My name is Catherine. Nice to meet you. Have you got a poppy?” The princess is referring to the remembrance brooch that’s pinned to her lapel. (The artificial poppy honors those who have died at war.)

Right on cue, the Princess of Wales says, “Would you like mine?” She removes the brooch from her jacket before giving it to Akeem, who has no idea how lucky he is.

A bystander shared a video of the exchange on Twitter and wrote, “It’s not every day you get a poppy from a Princess [smiling emoji] Akeem who’s 3 was very chatty when Kate unexpectedly stopped to say hello at a maternity mental health visit, so she gave him her remembrance poppy.”

Well played, Princess Catherine.
