It’s been almost four years since James Middleton tied the knot with his wife, Alizée Thevenet, in a lavish (yet under-the-radar) ceremony in the South of France in September 2021. Now, just ahead of their anniversary, the brother of Kate Middleton took to Instagram to share a sweet post about how he and Alizée stay in sync, but also the tactic they rely on to move on from any spat.

Alongside stunning footage of his wife jogging carefully along a sky-high alpine run, James captioned the clip: “Ever since we met, Alizée and I have been running side by side. In fact, if we ever argue, running is our way of clearing the air (partly because neither of us can talk while we do it),” he shared, offering an insight into a shared hobby, but also an unspoken strategy the pair lean on when communication gets tough.

The caption continues with a reference to their son, who is now almost two years old: “More recently, it’s been about running after Inigo but recently I planned this Alpine run and it might just be the most beautiful yet.” He ended the post with emojis that included a mountain, paw prints and a runner. (Yes, at least one of their dogs also joined the pair for this particular run.)

It’s a healthy approach, not only for the obvious reason that you’re logging some exercise, but also due to the fact that running releases endorphins, which are known to be a natural mood booster and one that tempers anxiety. To James’s point, it’s also a smart way to stay connected mid-conflict when both sides need to take a pause and get some perspective before resuming conversations. (We’d say that there’s almost nothing quite as head-clearing as pounding the pavement, solo or apart.)

A genius marital insight? We’d say so. Now, if only all arguments could be interrupted by those alpine views.
