Times are tough for many Americans at the moment. So, Hyundai and Genesis are pledging to relieve one major element of stress: car payments.
Today, Hyundai and its luxury arm, Genesis, announced that they will cover up to six months of car payments for new owners who find themselves unexpectedly unemployed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The car companies have also introduced the option of deferring payments by 90 days as long as customers lease or finance a new Hyundai Tucson, Elantra, Elantra GT, Kona, Venue, Accent or Genesis G70.
There are, of course, a few specifics attached to this meaningful offer. This act of generosity only extends to those who lease or finance a new car through their financial divisions, Hyundai Capital or Genesis Finance, from Saturday, March 14 through Monday, April 13 and lose their jobs involuntarily. So, if you’re planning to quit or retire, this offer isn’t for you. (They’ll ask you for proof of termination—we promise.) And, if you leased a new Hyundai or Genesis before March 14, the limited-time package isn’t applicable. Hyundai Capital and Genesis Finance also have to approve your specific case and only certain loans qualify.
Similarly, in 2008, the Korean automotive company allowed customers to return their cars if they lost their jobs in the wake of the financial crash.
It just goes to show that a little bit of human-centric thinking during this difficult time helps make things a little easier on everyone.
