In the video, a clean-shaven Cavill appears in a bathrobe to break the news to fans. The Batman v. Superman star begins by saying, “Oh, hello. Don’t be alarmed: It’s me, Henry Cavill, sometimes superhero and former secret agent. But now, I am completely clean-shaven.”
He solemnly continues, “I know, it’s hard to recognize me without KingStache. Sometimes, I even have trouble recognizing myself. It’s hard for me to admit: This is not CGI. He’s really gone. I can tell you this, though: I will remember him, always.”
As Cavill’s monologue ends, a compilation of photos of him sporting KingStache plays before the words “Shaved But Not Forgotten” appear on the screen.
Cavill’s CGI mention is, of course, a reference to the fact that Warner Bros. reportedly shelled out big bucks to digitally remove his mustache from Justice League reshoots. The IRL Superman grew KingStache to play August Walker in the forthcoming Mission: Impossible—Fallout. He formed such a strong bond with KingStache that the personified facial hair even took over Cavill’s Instagram account to herald the arrival of the Mission: Impossible trailer.
