It was only a matter of time before someone made a scripted movie about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s departure from the royal family...and that time is now.

Lifetime is in the process of developing an upcoming film called Harry & Meghan: Escaping the Palace, according to Deadline.

The film will focus on the couple’s infamous decision to step down as senior members of the royal family. Not only will it highlight several controversial moments that led to their shocking announcement, but it will also offer a glimpse into Prince Harry’s relationship with his dad, Prince Charles, and his brother, Prince William.

Lifetime is currently casting for Harry & Meghan: Escaping the Palace, which is scheduled to begin production later this year. The movie will be directed by Menhaj Huda (Comedown) and written by Scarlett Lacey (Magnum, P.I.). Merideth Finn (My Sister’s Keeper) and Michele Weiss (The Time Traveler’s Wife) will serve as executive producers.

This isn’t the first time Lifetime has produced a movie about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. In 2018, the network released Harry & Meghan: A Royal Romance followed by a sequel, Harry & Meghan: Becoming Royal.

The third film is likely in response to Prince Harry and Markle’s tell-all conversation with Oprah Winfrey, which aired on CBS earlier this month. During the interview, the royal couple opened up about their move to the United States and shared several jaw-dropping examples as to why they left their roles.

As if we needed another reason to invest our time in the royal family.
