Gabrielle Union took us all by surprise when she announced the arrival of her first child. Now, she’s sharing the special meaning behind her daughter, Kaavia James Union Wade’s, name.
The 46-year-old actress and designer shared a selfie of herself cradling Kaavia yesterday and revealed that the “James” portion of her daughter’s name pays homage to a special person in her life.
The new mom captioned her photo, “Just greazzzy and happy. That is all. @kaaviajames pronounced Kah-Vee-Uh James. She has 102 nicknames including but not limited to Kaav, Kaavi, Kaavi Baby, Kaavi J, Jamie, KJ, Nugget, Nug, Pooters.”
She went on to explain the relevance of each of her daughter’s names, writing, “We wanted to include my family in her name so the ‘James’ is from my uncle James Francis Glass who is also my godfather. Union is her middle name. I’ve waited this long so fo sho I was gonna get in there.”
Aside from the personal meaning the baby’s name holds to Union and her husband of four years, Dwyane Wade, the name Kaavia has Indian/Sanskrit origins and means “a work of art.”
