Forget Sansa Stark: Sophie Turner Terrifies as Jean Grey in New ‘Dark Phoenix’ Trailer

Sophie Turner just dropped an all-new glimpse of Dark Phoenix, and it looks like a combination of Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame.

Today, the 23-year-old actress debuted a full-length trailer for the upcoming X-Men film, and it raises the following question: Can the X-Men team teach Jean Grey (Turner) to control her darkening powers? It appears the answer is no.

In the teaser, we’re introduced to the threat that Jean faces as her powers continue to grow stronger. Combining new and old footage, the trailer shows a montage featuring the team’s rescue mission gone awry.

When they return to earth, the team is astounded that Jean survived the altercation. “She should be dead,” Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) says.

As Jean struggles to cope with her changing body, Smith (Jessica Chastain) takes the budding superhero under her wing. “My power destroyed everything it ever came into contact with...until you,” she says.

Although it’s unclear where the story line is headed, one thing’s for sure: The characters are just as confused as we are. “She’s still our friend,” says Cyclops (Tye Sheridan). Magneto (Michael Fassbender) adds, “The girl dies.”

The trailer concludes with Jean casually asking Magneto if he’s threatening her. “That would be a bad idea,” she says before forcing him through a window.

Turner captioned the post, “When she loses control, bad things happen.”

The movie is written and directed by Simon Kinberg (Deadpool). He’s also serving as an executive producer alongside Lauren Shuler Donner (Deadpool 2), Hutch Parker (X-Men: Apocalypse) and Todd Hallowell (X-Men: Days of Future Past).

You had us at Sophie Turner. Dark Phoenix hits theaters on June 7.
