Courteney Cox Tries the Viral ‘Friends’ Filter and It Goes Horribly Wrong

Despite ending more than a decade ago, Friends’s fandom remains as strong as ever. So, it’s no surprise that there are still memes and filters popping up on the interwebs. One, in particular, recently caught Courteney Cox’s attention, and the actress shared what happened when she tried a face app that’s inspired by the characters from the sitcom. Let’s just say the experience was truly terrifying.

Earlier this week, the Friends alum posted a video of herself trying the different face filters on Instagram. She wrote in the caption, “Um FRIENDS?”

The app features everyone from the close-knit friend group, including Rachel Green (Jennifer Aniston), Phoebe Buffay (Lisa Kudrow), Monica Geller (Cox), Ross Geller (David Schwimmer), Joey Tribbiani (Matt LeBlanc), and Chandler Bing (Matthew Perry).

The video starts with Cox testing the different filters and trying to guess the character. One of the filters showed Joey’s face and the actress proceeded to quote his famous pick-up lines from the show. “How you doin’?” Cox said into the camera.

The Shining Vale star came across her own character and even then, it was still unrecognizable to her. “Is this me? I feel terrible about myself,” she jokingly admits. Before ending the video, she said that this was one of the “worst apps” she’s ever seen.

Last year, the Friends cast reunited for an unscripted televised event, Friends: The Reunion. During the special, the stars re-lived moments from the beloved ‘90s sitcom.

Before the premiere, Cox appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and revealed the whole experience made her “so emotional.”

“I have the worst memory. Everything came up that I forgot about. But, it was great. It was really fun. We had a lot of special surprises, and it was fantastic. It really was,” she said.

Not all filters can be winners, right?
