It’s National Dog Day, and Buckingham Palace is celebrating.

To commemorate the event, the palace posted a carousel of the royal family with their dogs throughout the years, which also included pictures of Queen Camilla and her pup (slides two and 10). In the photos, the Queen poses with her new pup Moley, who she adopted after her beloved Jack Russell terrier, Beth, passed away.

The post was captioned, “Happy National Dog Day! To mark today’s celebration of our four-legged friends, we’re looking back at the dogs that have captured the hearts of Members of the Royal Family over the years,” and prompted many heartwarming responses from commenters. “Happy Int Dog Day, because dogs are so much more than companions, they're the heartbeat of our homes through all the seasons of our life. They create memories that shape our lives and connect generations,” wrote the official account of Eden Pet Foods. “What a truly lovely post! Happy National Dog Day to all dog mums and dads out there,” added another.

Another fan commented, “Beautiful photographs, and loving that so many JRTs have been part of the Family over the years.” Buckingham Palace is in a celebratory mode today, as they are also celebrating the birthday of Prince Richard, the Duke of Gloucester. For the occasion, they posted a rare photograph of the Duke with the message, “Happy Birthday to the Duke of Gloucester,” marking a departure from their usual postings of their core cast of senior royals.

The Duke, who was a first cousin of Queen Elizabeth II, also received a rare birthday post from the royal account for his birthday in 2023, which featured a collage of photos posted to the royal family's Instagram Story, with a caption that read, “Wishing The Duke of Gloucester a very Happy Birthday today!”

Happy National Dog Day to the royals, and happy birthday to the Duke of Gloucester.
