Queen Bey just revealed why she and King Jay bowed down to a duchess, paying mad respect to the pregnant royal.
Posting to her website under the section called "#WeGood," where the star has been honoring black artists, activists and entrepreneurs during February for Black History Month, Beyoncé wrote about the tribute to Markle, one of "our Melonated Monas."
She wrote that Markle is "one of the few Black women to join a royal family" and that even before she married into the royal family, Markle worked with charities and communities of color in Africa and India. Since becoming a royal, Beyoncé notes that the duchess has used her newfound world stage to promote black artists and culture at her and Prince Harry's royal wedding, including a black pastor, gospel choir and cellist.
"At the wedding her culture was front and center, and she and Prince Harry have continued to push the race relations dialogue forward both near and far," Beyoncé's website reads. "Congrats on your pregnancy! We wish you so much joy."
ICYMI: The Carters, who received the award on Wednesday night for Best International Music Group at the 2019 Brit Awards (basically the U.K.'s Grammys), accepted their win from afar, and a video of Beyoncé and Jay-Z was played at the ceremony. In it, the music legends are standing in front of a illustrated portrait of the Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle, complete with crown, jewels and princess gown.
The Carters were recreating a scene from their "Apeshit" music video in which they stand in front of the Mona Lisa in the Louvre, but instead of ol' Mona, it's duchess Megs in fan-art form. Speaking to the camera, Beyoncé says, "Thank you so much to the BRIT awards for this incredible honor. You guys have always been so supportive. Everything is love. Thank you."
"You're welcome," Jay-Z then says, while the pair turn around to look at Markle's portrait.
Bey's explanation for the tribute comes at an interesting time for the pregnant royal, with many fans wondering whether the video is calling out the British media's recent treatment of Markle, who has come under increasing scrutiny by the tabloids.
One thing's for certain: With the Beyhive on her side, Markle can't be stopped.
