Queen Bey and King Jay just bowed down to a duchess in their latest Instagram post, and fans of Meghan Markle and the music royalty that is Beyoncé and Jay-Z are losing it.
The Carters, who received the award today for Best International Music Group at the 2019 Brit Awards (basically the U.K.'s Grammys), accepted their win from afar, and a video of Beyoncé and Jay-Z was played at the ceremony.
In it, the music legends are standing in front of a painting of a beautiful woman wearing a crown...and it's unmistakably the doppelgänger of Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle. It could literally be her royal portrait.
The Carters were recreating a scene from their "Apeshit" music video in which they stand in front of the Mona Lisa in the Louvre, but instead of ol' Mona, it's duchess Megs in fan-art form.
Speaking to the camera, Beyoncé says, "Thank you so much to the BRIT awards for this incredible honor. You guys have always been so supportive. Everything is love. Thank you."
"You're welcome," Jay-Z then says, while the pair turn around to look at Markle's "portrait." In the background, a child's voice could be heard asking "why."
The video may be in reference to the British media's recent treatment of Markle, who has come under increasing scrutiny by the tabloids. Perhaps the Carters are giving their support to the duchess.
Even George Clooney recently spoke out about and condemned all the attention on his friend. Speaking at a press conference last week, he said the treatment is "irresponsible."
"She’s a woman who is seven months pregnant and she has been pursued and vilified and chased in the same way that Diana was and it’s history repeating itself," Clooney told reporters,
Just one question: Does this painting come in postcard form? Asking for ALL of our friends.
