The Surprising Nursery Item You Can Totally Write Off

New tax laws and you had a baby in 2018: The learning curve going into 2019 is steep.

But we've got good news for anyone who became a mom last year. All those onesies you got at your baby shower that your newborn quickly outgrew? If you passed any along to Goodwill (or another qualified philanthropic organization that accepts children's clothing donations) in 2018, you can claim the charitable deduction on your taxes and potentially increase the amount of your refund, too, according to Lisa Greene-Lewis, TurboTax expert and CPA.

Just be sure that you have an itemized receipt listing exactly what you gave away. (You'll need that in order to take the deduction.) Also, keep in mind that you can really only deduct the fair market value of the clothes.

But hey, every little bit counts, right?
