Ever taste something that’s so rich, so complex and so delicious that it’s difficult to put into words? It turns out, there is a term that sums it up in a single, admittedly funny-sounding word: umami. Which is exactly what you get when you mix two very basic ingredients--butter and soy sauce--together.
What you do: Melt a few tablespoons of butter in a pan and add a drizzle of soy sauce. Bring the heat down and whisk together before pouring it over your shrimp pasta (like The Woks of Life showed us). But the combo is also delightful on salmon, steak, asparagus…hell, even popcorn.
You’re already dolloping butter on all your favorite foods. This will just give it a slightly salty kick--and possibly create an obsession you may never be able to shake.
