I’m an Editor and These 7 Fashion Items Are at the Top of My Wish List

I rarely shop for myself, so this year my holiday wish list is overflowing with all the fun fashion finds I’ve been lusting after to start 2020 on a stylish foot. Below are the clothing picks that have made it into the top seven spots on my list. And can I let you in on a little secret? I found all the trends at Walmart, so they’re ultra affordable (which doubles my chances of getting everything I want.) It’s all about strategy, people.

Chunky Snow Boots

I have exactly three criteria when it comes to finding the perfect snow boots (which, until now, I hadn’t done): They should be 1) functional enough to crunch through snow, 2) stylish enough to wear to work and 3) comfortable enough to not give me blisters. These Circus by Sam Edelman “Gretchen” boots check all the boxes, plus they have a combat-boot vibe—one of my favorite styles this season. Bonus: They’re $30 cheaper on Walmart than at a bunch of other online retailers. Double bonus: Those shoelaces are plaid.

Faux-fur Windowpane Coat

Aside from my warm winter puffer coat, my outerwear selection is also limited, so I’m looking to add a more stylish coat to my collection—one I won’t want to immediately shed once I’ve stepped indoors. Camel is a consistently luxe-looking color, so I started there, but I also wanted a coat that incorporated a couple of additional trends. Faux fur with a windowpane pattern feels like it has staying power (and is still cozy enough to withstand the middle of winter).

Floral-print Long-sleeve Maxi Dress

Maxi, moody, floral—this popular dress style fits almost too perfectly in my fashion wheelhouse. This particular one is by the NYC brand Scoop (remember them?), and I already can’t wait to wear it with tights and heeled boots from now until March, at least.

Sherpa Pullover

I’ve been yearning for a cozy sherpa pullover to dip my toe into the ongoing trend, and this one fits the bill. It’s got a quarter-zip closure, it comes in a nice off-white color that would look great French-tucked into skinny jeans and it’s 100 percent machine washable.

Matching Pj Set

In my mind, nothing is more festive during the holidays than cuddling up in matching PJs with a cup of hot cocoa à la The Polar Express. (Yes, if you must know, that is exactly my winter aesthetic.) But the best part about this one is that it’s made with a luxe-looking material that I can wear out of the house (it’s a thing, promise). And during a season where I’d usually rather not change out of my jammies, it’s a welcome wardrobe addition.

Crystal Hoop Earrings

I’m a jewelry lover, so there was no way a bold pair of earrings wasn’t making it onto my list. And nothing feels more versatile right now than chunky hoops. These bad boys are sparkly enough to set themselves apart from my standard plain gold pair but classic enough to dress up any work outfit without feeling too gaudy.

Star Sweater

Sometimes the best pieces are the ones that simply make you happy. I was on the hunt for a cozy sweater that brought joy every time I pulled it on rather than my usual run-of-the-mill gray turtleneck, and that’s when I stumbled upon this one with a graphic star print and metallic thread.
