Much like how the journey is as important as the destination, the stories behind a gift are often what makes it the most memorable. With Valentine’s Day on the horizon, we reached out to three women who happened to receive the gift of Cartier jewelry and, of course, have a vivid memory of the moment to share. Read on for their stories and get inspired to create your own.
The Engagement Ring
“My husband, Mathieu, proposed New Year’s Eve 2010. We were spending the weekend in Rhinebeck, New York, at this quaint B&B. We spent the weekend going to the old homes, clay shooting at Sandanona and wandering through Beacon. He proposed over a fancy picnic—Champagne, caviar, foie gras—in our room on New Year’s Eve. He knew I wanted a specific engagement ring and wanted to create it together, so he proposed with the Cartier Love band. When we got married he got a traditional Cartier wedding band and engraved both mine and his with our wedding date, which helps us remember our anniversary!” —Catesby C.
The Wedding Necklace
“The Cartier Diamants Légers necklace was a total surprise. We talked about exchanging gifts on the day of our wedding, but at the time decided that it was a little too extravagant. So when I walked into my hotel room the night before the wedding and saw the little red box sitting on the vanity I was just at a loss for words. My husband, Matt, has always gone above and beyond for me (for us, rather), and while gifts are just icing on the cake, this was pretty amazing icing. I wear it every day as a little reminder of him and a hope that we always continue to surprise each other.” —Angela P.
The Valentine's Day Watch
“My husband and I first met when we were teenagers. We became high school sweethearts and have been together ever since. My most cherished gift from him is my Cartier Ballon Bleu watch that he surprised me with one Valentine’s Day. He knew it was something that I had always wanted and he placed it on the pillow next to me that morning so I would wake up to that special red box. What I love most about the watch is that it’s a constant reminder of our love truly standing the test of time.” —Christine H.
