Tanner Buchanan Is Engaged to 'Cobra Kai' Co-Star Mary Mouser—Here's What We Know

Buchanan and Mouser first met on the set of Cobra Kai in 2017, when they started filming the first season in Atlanta, Georgia. In season two of the show, their characters briefly dated, but the pair remained good friends in real life.

It's worth noting, though, that Buchanan and his co-star developed a tight-knit bond as they continued to work together. So much so that Mouser began to refer to him as her bestie, like when she supported his movie, He's All That, in 2021 and marked his birthday with a heartfelt Instagram tribute in 2019, writing, "I know most normal people would post for your birthday at midnight the morning OF your bday—but we’re not normal besties. So here I am."

She continued, "You are the most kind and beautiful soul of all time, I am so grateful to know you and adore you! I can’t wait to celebrate with you, for this birthday and all the other made up holidays that we create just so we can party together! You’re the greatest and you deserve the greatest! Thank you with all my heart for everything bestest budddddddy! (even for the times where you get on my last freakin nerve!)"

Well, not quite. While chatting with Interview Magazine about the romantic scenes in Cobra Kai, Buchanan confessed that kissing Mouser for the first time was anxiety-inducing because of their friendship.

He said, “You could talk to Mary [Mouser] about this because she and I are such good friends. When we had our first kiss scene in season two, they were asking us, ‘Are you ready?’ My heart was pounding, I was shaking. It just feels weird to go to that place, because we’re such good friends.”

In a surprise twist, the happy couple confirmed their romance and announced their engagement on Instagram by posting a trio of romantic pics from the Cobra Kai Series Finale Premiere Event. In the first slide, Mouser's ring is on full display as she gazes adoringly at her husband-to-be.

The two revealed that they were "happy to finally share that we’re engaged." The announcement also read, "We’re so grateful for the love and support, and though we’re partial to having our private moments, we’re excited to share this check-in to our world."

The couple hasn't revealed any more details about the engagement or their upcoming nuptials.

Before Mouser, Buchanan dated his longtime girlfriend and Gen V star Lizze Broadway. The former couple mostly avoided the public eye, but Buchanan occasionally opened up about their relationship while they were still together. For instance, during his appearance on the Anna Faris Is Unqualified podcast in 2021, the actor revealed that he and Broadway had been together since they were teenagers and briefly broke up in 2015. He confessed, "It was my fault. I was actually kind of being an a** during that time. So she had every right to [break up with me]."

Also, in a Q&A segment with GQ in 2021, Buchanan noted that Broadway was "absolutely wonderful." However, the couple eventually parted ways, likely in 2021.
