I’m always on the lookout for a thriller that is going to have me on the edge of my seat, and folks, I’ve got another #weekendwatch recommendation to add to your list.

Starring Domithila Cattete, Marleyda Soto and Lucas Galvino, Rivers of Fate is a new Brazilian mystery series that chronicles the journey of a teenager who is kidnapped by a sex trafficking ring, leading her mother and a river pirate (yes, really) on a quest to rescue her. Along the way, the storyline of a gang leader who is forced to deal with the consequences of his actions and disputes within his gang is also addressed. The show currently holds the fifth spot on the platform's top ten television shows list, and if the trailer is any indication, viewers are in for a wild ride.

The four-episode limited series has quickly generated conversation, as it explores themes of crime, exploitation, trauma and revenge, giving viewers an emotionally-packed watch with no dull moments in between. Of the trailer, one commenter on YouTube writes, “This looks really good. I hope she gets away safe and wins,” with another adding, “Wow, very interesting.”

And while Rotten Tomatoes hasn’t yet determined an audience Popcornmeter rating for the show, critics have given it an 80 percent on the Tomatometer, praising it for its intriguing storyline, shock factor and its impactful ability to tell the story of crime and survival.
