The Best True-Crime Show Hands-Down Is on Showtime (& OMG That *Ending*)

When it comes to true-crime documentaries, we thought we had exhausted all of our options that our favorite streaming platforms had to offer. However, somehow one major Showtime doc, Outcry, managed to slip through the cracks. And we can’t believe we didn’t realize it until now.

In short, Outcry, which was released back in 2020, does a deep dive into the life of high school football star, Greg Kelley, his controversial conviction and the town’s journey to seek justice. When the story begins, it literally—as the trailer points out—feels like Friday Night Lights. But it doesn’t take long before things take a dark turn when a horrible crime committed comes to light. Seriously, if you loved Making a Murderer, this is definitely a must-watch.

Watch the full trailer below.

Outcry’s official synopsis reads, “Few people experience the momentum that Kelley had going into his senior year in Leander, Texas. That all changed when he was convicted of sexual assault of a four-year-old boy, and sentenced to 25 years in prison with no possibility for parole. But a groundswell of support emerged for Kelley, calling into question the investigation, the prosecution's tactics and ultimately, the validity of the conviction.”

And we’re not kidding when we say this show has everything. For one, being that it’s only five episodes, it’s a very easy binge. It’s also packed with a shocking number of twists and turns that will have you questioning each and every person involved in the case. Not to mention, the ending is well worth the wait.

Happy bingeing!
