After a weekend packed with new releases, Netflix’s Top 10 has once again done what it does best: shuffle in a mix of familiar favorites and fresh contenders. Alongside usual heavy hitters like WWE Raw, Virgin River, and Beauty in Black, one new series has quietly (and then not so quietly) surged all the way to the number two spot—and it’s got viewers pretty split. The show? Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen.

Created by Haley Z. Boston and executive produced by the Duffer Brothers, the series stars Camila Morrone and Adam DiMarco. It follows a bride-to-be whose growing paranoia ahead of her wedding begins to unravel something far more sinister: a long-standing family curse that demands she find her true soulmate and marry them by sunset or face deadly consequences.

The eight-episode series premiered on March 26 and wasted no time climbing Netflix’s rankings. But while its performance suggests plenty of people are pressing play, audience reactions have been noticeably mixed.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the series holds an 86 percent critics score compared to a 65 percent audience score, pointing to a pretty clear divide in opinion. Some viewers felt the story could have benefited from a tighter edit or even a different format altogether.

“I watched the first four episodes and gave up.”

“It was just very dull. Maybe as a movie it would have been better?”

“Way too drawn out. Could have been 4 episodes instead of 8.”

That said, not all feedback leaned critical. Even among those who had pacing concerns, many still praised the performances and the overall concept.

“Great twist on the horror genre. Worth a watch.”

“What a brilliant concept. There’s this quiet, unsettling darkness to the show that really pulls you in and kind of stays with you after it ends.”

“Absolutely loved this series and can’t stop thinking about it!!! Definitely a must watch!!!”

Whether you’re into slow-burn horror, psychological twists, or just curious what all the debate is about, Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen is now streaming on Netflix.
