It’s no secret that A Quiet Place is one of the most brilliant horror movies ever made. From mounting tension and terrifying jump scares to the expert use of sound, John Krasinski’s 2018 film is effective enough to give anyone chills. The same can be said for his equally terrifying follow-up, A Quiet Place 2, which broke multiple box office records. After years of anticipation and speculation, the prequel, A Quiet Place: Day One, has finally arrived. This go-round takes things back to the beginning. New York City is under attack from an alien invasion, but there's a rather twisted catch—these aliens are drawn to the slightest sounds, meaning the only possible way to survive is by remaining silent at all times.

Director Michael Sarnoski recently told IndieWire that this film is an early explanation into how the creatures’ physiognomy evolves. "A Quiet Place: Day One shows us how they subsist on human flesh and lurk in packs," Sarnoski told the publication adding: "I liked in the early movies that they didn’t over-show them. One of the scariest things about these creatures is this whole ‘you make a sound, you die.’ There is something simple and fundamental about that that everyone can relate to. I didn’t want to overshare to the point where they just became these scary, clawy creatures, but at the same time we wanted to hit that scope and scale of ‘this is a large invasion, and there are herds of these things in this very loud city. A lot of it was about how we pieced that out and started by not showing too much and by the end, you build up to it being a little more in your face."

With the new film officially in theaters, I curated a list of the best movies like A Quiet Place that will help get you in the horror spirit.
