Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Sandra Bullock

Veteran actress Sandra Bullock will go down in history as America's Sweetheart, and it's easy to see why. After snagging her breakthrough role in the action movie Speed, she won fans over with her humor and girl-next-door charm. But of course, feel-good films aren’t all that she’s known for.

It all started with Bullock’s childhood. She took an early interest in ballet and the vocal arts, thanks in part to her mother and German opera singer, Helga Mathilde. Bullock got her start by taking on minor roles in her mother’s opera productions. And after graduating from high school, she earned her BFA in Drama at East Carolina University. While there, she performed in theater productions like Peter Pan and Three Sisters.

During the late '80s, the actress moved to NYC and landed a few roles in independent films and snagged her first lead role in NBC’s Working Girl. She appeared in other titles like The Thing Called Love, Fire on the Amazon and Demolition Man, but it was her 1994 film, Speed, that took her acting career to the next level.

Though Bullock became well-known for her romantic comedies, like Miss Congeniality and Two Weeks Notice, she showed off her acting range by taking on different genres, from action thrillers and crime dramas to fantasies. Among her biggest films are GravityOcean's 8, The Lost City and The Blind Side, which earned her an Oscar for Best Actress. But aside from keeping fans entertained on screen, Bullock has also been working behind the scenes as a producer. In fact, she launched her production company, Fortis Films, back in 1995, and she has worked on projects like Hope Floats, Practical Magic and The George Lopez Show.

In March 2022, Bullock announced that she would take a well-deserved break from acting to focus on her family, which includes her two adopted children, Louis Bardo and Laila Bardo. She’s also in a relationship with photographer Bryan Randall, whom she has been dating since 2015.
