This Erotic Psychological Thriller Starring Jenna Ortega Just Hit #2 on Netflix

Though it’s only been a few days since the 2024 erotic thriller, Miller’s Girl (starring Jenna Ortega and Martin Freeman) debuted on Netflix, it has popped up quite a bit on my social media feed—and given its current ranking on the streaming platform’s top 10 movies list, I can certainly see why. 

This psychological drama (which is currently the second most-watched movie on Netflix right now) follows an 18-year-old named Cairo Sweet (Ortega), who starts having an affair with her creative writing teacher, Jonathan Miller (Freeman).

Before finding a new home on Netflix, Miller’s Girl debuted in theaters across America on January 26, 2024. The movie was met with mixed reviews from critics and viewers alike. The movie received a 29 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 5.2 out of 10 on IMDb. Ouch…

One of the biggest gripes audiences have with Miller’s Girl is the inappropriate age gap between Freeman and Ortega. FYI, Freeman is 52 years old and the Wednesday actress is 21.

In a new interview with The Sunday Times, Freeman defended the film despite the criticism received from several viewers. While noting Miller’s Girl is “grown-up and nuanced,” The World’s End alum went on to say, “It’s not saying, ‘Isn’t this great?’”

He added, “And that’s a shame. Are we gonna have a go at Liam Neeson for being in a film about the Holocaust?” (ICYMI: Neeson was the lead actor in the 1993 war drama, Schindler’s List.)
