In an age where television shows are lucky to get past two seasons, The Lincoln Lawyer got four. Then, it was unexpectedly cancelled after a confirmed fifth and final season that airs in 2027. Fans were rightfully outraged, with one writing, "TLL is one of the best shows on Netflix.” Though everyone will have to say goodbye to the hit show, there is a silver lining. A Lincoln Lawyer spinoff is officially in the works.

Per Collider, Netflix has officially confirmed that an unnamed spinoff is in development starring Cobie Smulders. Smulders was introduced at the end of season four as Mickey Haller's (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo) half-sister, Emi.

Few details have been released about the spin-off, but the script will be handled by The Lincoln Lawyer executive producers Ted Humphrey, Dailyn Rodriguez and Matthew J. Lieberman. Though a release date has yet to be announced, Collider reported that Netflix wants a "quick turnaround."

Regarding the original series' cancellation, one of the showrunners told Collider, "We could have kept this show going for another season or two, and we had ideas to do that. But, we are very grateful to Netflix for giving us the opportunity to wrap the show up correctly.”

With The Lincoln Lawyer season five in production, fans can expect to get to know Emi better before she stars on her own. Smulders was promoted to a series regular for this season, and the plot is driven by her character, who comes to her half-brother to ask for his help freeing a wrongfully-convicted woman.
