Keegan-Michael Key and Johnny Knoxville Portray Famous Sitcom Stars in New Hulu Comedy ‘The Reboot’

Hulu is making fun of the influx of television revivals and reboots in the new comedy series, The Reboot.

Earlier this week, the streaming service released the first official trailer for the upcoming series on social media. Created by Steven Levitan (who is the co-creator of the long-running sitcom Modern Family), The Reboot revolves around a fictional early 2000s sitcom called Step Right Up.

Years after the show ended, “Hulu” wants to give it the revival treatment and have all the original stars back in the new series.

Keegan-Michael Key portrays Reed Sterling, who is described as a “fussy actor” who once starred in the sitcom Step Right Up. He is a former graduate of the Yale School of Drama and despises his former castmates for ruining his acting career.

Meanwhile, Johnny Knoxville plays the role of Clay Barber, a “dark and filthy” standup comic whose only real acting job was on the family sitcom.

The star-studded cast also includes Paul Reiser (Mad About You), Rachel Bloom (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend), Calum Worthy (The Act) and Krista Marie Yu (Last Man Standing).

Jordan Helman (Head of Scripted Content for Hulu) released a statement celebrating the news, writing, “We’re honored that Hulu will be home to Steve [Levitan’s] return to television with Reboot and given our slate of successful comedies such as Only Murders in the Building, Pen15, Ramy and more, we know our viewers will devour this hilariously meta satire.”

Mark your calendars: The Reboot premieres on Hulu on September 20.
