Will the Netflix series be the same?

The release date for season five of Emily in Paris has yet to be set, but at least one cast member will not be coming back—and her role is a big one. Camille Razat, who shares a name with her character Camille, confirmed her exit on Instagram with a carousel of behind-the-scenes pics, much to the surprise of her fans.

Her caption read, “After an incredible journey, I’ve made the decision to step away from Emily in Paris.” She continued: “It has been a truly wonderful experience, one filled with growth, creativity and unforgettable memories...This character has meant a lot to me and I feel that her storyline has naturally come to an end. It felt like the right moment to explore new horizons.” (The actress teased a few upcoming projects including a new series, called Nero, for Netflix and the launch of her own production company.)

Several members of the cast chimed in to cheer Razat on in the comments for her decision, Lily Collins—who plays Emily, the titular role—included. “Love you sister. It’s been a wild ride and an absolute pleasure. You’re a rockstar. So proud of you,” she wrote. (Camille’s on- and off-again on-screen beau, Lucas Bravo, who plays Gabriel, also chimed in: “Ma soeur,” which translates to “my sister,” is all he wrote.)

Camille (as played by Razat) has spent four seasons helping to anchor the series’ most major plot points. We first met her as Emily’s friend before the pair turned temporary foes as both were in love with Gabriel, Emily’s dashing neighbor-turned-restaurant owner and Camille’s long-term beau. In addition to that, Camille’s position as a champagne heiress (her parents own Chamère, which Emily’s PR firm Savoir—and later Agence Grateau—does the marketing for) delivered some of the funniest moments throughout the series including when Camille’s father (Christophe Guybet) attempts to saber a Chamère bottle...for content. (Let’s just say a hospital visit is required.)

It’s true that the love triangle between Emily, Camille and Gabriel began to drag a bit as season four (parts one and two) concluded, but Camille still feels iconic to the series. It’s pretty hard to imagine it continuing without her—though she left the door open for her character’s return with this line, a part of her Instagram post’s caption: “I’m deeply grateful to @starmandarren and the entire team at @netflix and @paramountpics for their trust and for giving me the opportunity to bring Camille to life and leaving the door open for her return, as she will always be a part of Emily In Paris world.” So, we shall see.

In the meantime, we’ll be toasting Camille with our own version of Chamère—and eagerly awaiting the confirmation of season five’s return date. (As long as Sophie is still in, we’re so there.)
