This 'Devil Wears Prada' Star Is Skipping the Sequel (and I'm Not Exactly Mad About It)

I think most would agree

Maybe it’s just the millennial in me, but I think we can all agree The Devil Wears Prada is (and always will be) a cultural moment. Based on Lauren Weisberger’s bestselling novel, The Devil Wears Prada followed wide-eyed Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway) as she navigated the ruthless world of fashion journalism under the icy gaze of Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep).

The film crushed the box office in 2006—pulling in a cool $326 million on a $35 million budget—and it's still having a moment today. Iconic quotes like “It’s cerulean” are all over TikTok and let’s not even get started on the resurgence of Miranda Priestly reaction memes. So, naturally, when news broke that a sequel is officially in production nearly 20 years later, the internet collectively lost it.

And the biggest question on everyone’s mind for The Devil Wears Prada 2: who’s coming back?

Well, one familiar face won’t be returning—Adrian Grenier. According to Entertainment Weekly, Grenier will not reprise his role as Nate Cooper, Andy’s (often controversial) boyfriend. In case you need a refresher: Nate supported Andy at first, but quickly grew tired of her demanding fashion job, ultimately leading to their breakup after she missed his birthday.

Normally, when a reboot or sequel to a classic gets announced, I want the core cast back. But in this case? No shade to Adrian Grenier, but I’m actually not mad about him reportedly sitting this one out. Given how things ended between Nate and Andy, there’s really not much left to explore there. Their story kind of wrapped itself up. And with so many directions the sequel could go, it doesn’t feel like a huge loss.

As for the rest of the core cast? It looks like they’re all in. Hathaway, Streep, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci are all listed on IMDb for the upcoming sequel. Plot details are still under wraps but 20th Century Studios officially confirmed the project on June 30 with a cheeky Instagram animation—two red stilettos replacing the original poster’s one. The caption? “The Devil Wears Prada 2. Now in production.”

No word yet on the exact storyline, but the release is currently set for 2026—lining up with the original film’s 20th anniversary. And while we wait for round two, the original is currently streaming on Disney+. A rewatch feels… mandatory.
