The #6 TV Show on Netflix Puts a Dark Twist on Cheerleading

Are you looking to kick off 2021 with new streaming content? You’ve come to the right place.

Introducing Dare Me. Although it originally premiered on the USA Network back in 2019, it has already claimed the number six spot on Netflix’s list of most-watched TV shows. (It’s currently ranked behind Cobra Kai, Bridgerton, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, The Queen’s Gambit and Cocomelon.)

Dare Me is based on the namesake book by Megan Abbott. The story takes place in a small Midwestern town called Sutton Grove, which hasn’t been able to bounce back from the economic downturn.

Things start looking better when the new cheer coach, Colette French (Willa Fitzgerald), arrives to shake things up. Will the captain, Beth Cassidy (Marlo Kelly), sacrifice her position as the team’s leader? And will Coach French be able to successfully lead the group, all while managing her personal issues?

In addition to Fitzgerald and Kelly, the series also stars Herizen F. Guardiola (Addy Hanlon), Rob Heaps (Matt French), Zach Roerig (Sarge Will Mosley), Paul Fitzgerald (Bert Cassidy), Alison Thornton (Tacy Cassidy), Taveeta Szymanowicz (RiRi Curtis), Addyson Douglas (Emily Diaz), Brittany Raymond (Cori Ross) and Brittany Teo (Tess Lynn). Abbott wrote the script alongside Gina Fattore (Dawson’s Creek).

It’s important to point out that Dare Me might not be appropriate for some viewers, since certain scenes feature nudity and violence. However, if you’re looking for a dark thriller that won’t bore you to a crisp, we highly recommend adding it to your streaming queue.
