If you know me, you know I love a spa day. (So much so that my family threw me a surprise spa-themed shower back in my bridal era.) But now, with a busy career and a toddler to chase after, that monthly appointment has slowly fallen off the priority list. As we head into the holidays, it’s my goal to better show up for my family by first taking care of myself. And thanks to my local Massage Envy® franchised location in Garwood, NJ, squeezing in a little R and R has never been easier.

Massage Envy® is known for its high-quality massage services, but the whole-body wellness destination offers so much more, from guided stretching and facials to skin care treatments like dermaplaning and chemical peels. Ahead of celebrating my fifth wedding anniversary, I was eager to test out the Zero Downtime Peel featuring Marini SkinSolutions®. This innovative peel helps accelerate skin cell renewal through chemical exfoliation that gets you glowing in no time, all without any expected peeling or redness (i.e., it’s the perfect way to prep your skin before a special occasion). The treatment is also fully customizable, whether you’re dealing with blemishes, dullness or fine lines and wrinkles.

Read on for a review of my full Zero Downtime Peel experience, plus the Marini SkinSolutions® products that helped keep me on track at home.

The Zero Downtime Peel Experience

Like many things in life, skin care is not one size fits all, and that’s why I love how Massage Envy® approaches each client with care and curiosity, no matter the service. As I sat in the sun-soaked waiting area of the Garwood Massage Envy® franchised location, a front desk associate helped me through a digital questionnaire regarding my skin history. Once I met my esthetician, we had an even more in-depth conversation about my typical skin care routine, my current concerns and any allergies. My two food allergies (tree nuts and sesame) pop up more often than you’d think in skin care products, especially as oils or physical exfoliants, so I appreciated her taking the time to double-check each product’s ingredient list.

As I cozied up under the pre-warmed bed, my esthetician began prepping my skin for the peel with a double cleanse. This also gave her the opportunity to better analyze my skin and help me decide which customizations would be best. As the expert, I asked her to tell it to me straight: What do you think my skin needs? Dullness, some newly formed fine lines (thanks, motherhood!) and hyperpigmentation were the biggest callouts, so she tailored my glycolic acid peel with these issues in mind, then followed it up with a series of post-treatment products featuring brightening and hydrating heavy hitters like vitamin C and hyaluronic acid.

Though I’ve heard chemical peels aren’t always the most relaxing procedures, the peel portion of my Zero Downtime Peel was quick and painless. After concocting and applying my unique acid mixture, the product sat for about five to seven minutes with only minor tingling before my esthetician got to work on removing it—all the while keeping a close eye on my discomfort level as well as the redness of my skin, in case she needed to intervene early.

Post-removal, my skin felt refreshed, clean and baby smooth—think the best exfoliation you’ve ever had—with no lingering spiciness from the glycolic acid peel.

After that, the full facial treatment relaxation could kick off. My esthetician applied a cool, damp towel over my face as she massaged my arms, hands and shoulders. Before applying a few layers of serums (that smelled divine, by the way), she did some targeted extractions around my nose, chin and hairline where my pores tend to get clogged. We ended the 60-minute session with eye cream, a lip mask and some SPF, as well as instructions to prioritize sun protection and water intake over the next few days.

Putting ‘Zero Downtime’ to the Test…

Though I had originally booked the Zero Downtime Peel with my anniversary in mind, life had other plans. A last-minute invite to a major tennis tournament in NYC (you know the one) had me rushing out the door of the Garwood Massage Envy® franchised location, and hopping on a train bound for Queens—yep, within hours of each other. Prior to my appointment, I was nervous I’d look a little, ahem, flushed, but I knew this would be the ultimate way to test the peel’s “zero downtime” claim.

True to its name, the peel allowed me to show up to the stadium flake-free, splotch-free and positively glowing. After getting the OK to apply light makeup from my esthetician, a quick swipe of mascara, a tinted SPF and a dab of blush was all I had time for, but that ended up being all I really needed. I could see and feel a noticeable difference in my overall skin tone and texture post-procedure, and my seatmates commented on how fresh and glowy I looked (unprompted, might I add).

A few days later, still with no visible peeling, I celebrated my anniversary in a similar makeup-free fashion (because mini golf in the suburbs is delightfully unglamorous). Mascara, SPF and a little lip balm go a long way when your base is set up for success. My skin looked bright, clear and unbothered by time, like 20-year-old me just stepped out of the shower—freckles and all.

To say I was impressed by both the experience of and results from the Zero Downtime Peel would be an understatement, and you better believe I already have my next appointment teed up.

The Post-Procedure Products I’m Loving

To continue to care for my skin at home, I left my appointment with a handful of Marini SkinSolutions® products (the same brand featured in the Zero Downtime Peel). The Skin Care Management System features five of the brand’s best sellers, including the Bioglycolic Face Cleanser, C-ESTA Face Serum, Bioclear Face Lotion, Transformation Face Cream and Antioxidant Daily Face Protectant SPF 33. If you’re new to luxury skin care or are looking to streamline your routine, this is a perfect kit to start with because it’s easy to follow and provides real results.

The Bioglycolic Face Cleanser is a great way to extend the results of the Zero Downtime Peel, imparting a similar invigorating buzz as you massage it onto dry skin. I also loved the medium weight of the Transformation Face Cream, making it the perfect year-round moisturizer for my combo skin.

During my appointment, my esthetician explained the importance of a vitamin C serum to help fight free radicals and brighten dark spots, urging me to mix it with hyaluronic acid each morning before applying SPF. The C-ESTA Face Serum absorbs quickly and smells like a spa, rightfully beating out all other day serums currently on my vanity.

For nighttime (especially post-procedure), my esthetician couldn’t stop raving about the Marini Reboot PDRN Face Serum. Trendy as salmon-derived PDRN may be, Marini SkinSolutions® says it’s “a clinically proven regenerative technology to support recovery, resilience and long-term skin health.” If you have sensitive skin or you’re hesitant about trying a retinoid, the Marini Reboot is a great alternative, and it’s one I’ll be keeping around indefinitely.

The Bottom Line

There are few things I love more than a skin procedure that actually delivers on its claims. The Zero Downtime Peel from Massage Envy® (paired with the Marini SkinSolutions® products) truly is that girl; reliable and reasonably priced, serving up real results alongside luxurious relaxation. Safe to say it’s my new go-to facial before any special occasion—and it may just be the thing that gets me back to my regularly scheduled spa days.
