The idea of detoxifying your body to rejuvenate it is a controversial one. Some people live and breathe by detoxes, while others dismiss it as unnecessary or even dangerous. This contentious wellness topic is at the center of this week's episode of  ‘Your Best Life,’ a new podcast hosted by Anna Victoria, the CEO and founder of the Fit Body app, that's produced by our parent company, Gallery Media Group. 

In this episode, ‘A Detoxing Discussion,’ Anna sits down with Dr. Alejandro Junger, a cardiologist and New York Times Bestselling author of four books. His latest is titled Clean 7: Supercharge the Body's Natural Ability to Heal Itself—The One-Week Breakthrough Detox Program. Dr. Junger is a functional medicine expert and focuses largely on detoxification to restore the body’s natural ability to heal itself. He has studied both eastern and western medical practices, and combines both in his Clean Program. 

During their conversation, Anna and Dr. Junger talk a lot about the detoxification movement. Anna challenges Dr. Junger on the science of detoxing, and the two discuss the combination of western and functional medicine. Dr. Junger says, "I identify with trying to help people heal. So I see everything—medicine, iovera [a treatment that involves applying targeted cold to a peripheral nerve], Chinese medicine, meditation, hands-on healing—I see all of them as tools, and all of them have their value and can be combined or not. And the art of doing that, of combining these things, is what I am trying to perfect." It's a thought-provoking discourse that will surely have you looking at nutrition differently. They also talk about the ever-changing wellness landscape.

"As a species, we are evolving and I see a lot of people that are opening their mind, and I am opening my mind as I go along," Dr. Junger says. "My ideas today are not the same as my ideas five years ago, and hopefully not the same as five years from now, maybe one year from now." It's a healthy reminder not to get too bogged down by the latest and greatest trends, since it's only a matter of time before something new comes along.
