Your Weekly Horoscopes: February 16 to 22, 2020
Not to be dramatic, but this is the week where—for better or worse—everything changes. On the 16th, we have two major planetary shifts: First, Mercury stations retrograde (yes, it’s that time of year again!) in Pisces, and then action planet Mars marches into Capricorn. While Mars in Capricorn is our personal coach, Mercury retrograde in Pisces is best embodied in the snooze button. If only we could tackle our ambitions from the comfort of our daydreams. Our challenge for the next few weeks is to find a balance between these ideals. Let’s get started.
(Horoscopes follow for each sign. If you know your rising sign, reading for that will provide further insight.)
Happy birthday, Pisces! It’s finally your season! Live it up even though Mercury going retrograde in your sign on the 16th may leave you feeling spacier and more tongue-tied than usual. By the 19th, you are feeling loved and confident (if not a bit woozy). On the 20th, a friend gives you a life-changing compliment that leaves you inspired to get back to work on a long-abandoned project. You can do it! You should do it.
Just when you thought everything was “settling down” at work, it all gets stirred up again on the 16th. Don’t let it blow out of proportion, though. Open a window. If you are direct in confronting what’s bothering you, it could pay off on the 21st with a new income stream or even just a lunch on your boss’s tab (get the steak). Even if the solution to this career stuff is to quit your job, make sure the reason is less about winning an argument and more about getting that sweet, sweet cash.
If you’ve been feeling the pressure for the past month or so, a bit of relief arrives on the 19th as the sun glides into Pisces. You can now be more focused on your friends than you are on your image. Phew. Look around you. Have your networks and communities shifted since this time last year? On the 22nd, you have an aha moment as you think about why it is that some friendships have drifted and others have solidified. Other people haven’t changed. It’s you who is different. How’s that for a paradigm shift?
Mercury goes retrograde on the 16th. And for you, it will seem like everything is going haywire. You post something on Twitter that gets taken in an unexpected way, and a knot in your stomach grows as you become concerned that you’re going to be “canceled.” At work, your boss keeps sending confusing emails and refuses to clarify in person. But on the 19th, as the sun enters Pisces, you realize you have to step up to the plate and lead yourself (and your team!) through this chaos. When you’re trudging through the mud, remember that it won’t be like this forever.
A romantic gesture you planned for your partner totally backfires on the 16th. What was meant to be sweet ends in an argument. You thought this issue had been put to bed, but it’s returned with a vengeance. On the 21st, try to soothe the conflict by making new friends as a couple. Volunteer for a political campaign, head to the local sustainability meetup or chat with the friendly strangers sitting next to you at the bar on date night. New energy can heal old wounds.
A huge fundraising project kicks off for you on the 19th. Whether you are raising money for a charitable cause, crowdfunding with your band to produce your next album or shopping around for the best auto financing, try to stay optimistic. If you believe, the money will come. On the 22nd, you are forced to pick up someone else’s slack and lead this hunt for treasure in a way you hadn’t planned. Your charisma goes a long way. Ask for what you need.
Think twice before negotiating a contract this week, dear Virgo. Mercury goes retrograde on the 16th in your house of relationships and agreements. Details are fuzzy. And anything sealed with a handshake now may be up for review later. So push the deadline until you can cross all of your t’s and dot all of those i’s. In the meantime, focus on your relationships. As the sun enters Pisces on the 19th, your days will be spent helping the most important people in your life. Let them know how much they mean to you.
Do you feel like running away this week, Libra? As Mars enters Capricorn on the 16th, you get the urge to pack your bags and leave home. Where is home, anyway? And why can you never seem to settle down? Instead of looking at sublets on Craigslist, try to double down on your commitment to where you are and plant some roots. On the 21st, make an investment in something to spruce up your space. Challenge yourself to stay put. The fruits of your patience will pay off.
Your sister is visiting from out of town this week, and thankfully there’s tons to entertain her with in your neighborhood. Go to that wine tasting at the fancy liquor store below your apartment on the 16th. Who knows, maybe you’ll both fall in love with the sommelier. On the 21st, after receiving a text from that toxic childhood friend you cut out of your life, you’re ready to set firm boundaries around your communications. No more negative forces in the inner circle of your life. Buh-bye, Felicia.
Your family is absolutely important to you, but lately they have been driving you up the wall. This energy ramps up even more so on the 16th, so gift yourself a sense of humor when your mom calls—yet again—to complain about drama with her coworkers. Try some square breathing when your brother ignores yet another text about a shared gift for your cousin’s wedding. On the 20th, you get the courage to blow everyone off and focus on yourself. Leave them hanging for once. But be nice about it.
Though you always know what’s best in any situation, you’ve been feeling remiss to speak up about it lately, Capricorn. You’ve let some of your worries get the best of you. Luckily, a major boost of confidence arrives on the 16th as Mars enters your sign. Get a facial that clears out your pores. Tell a friend how you truly feel about your relationship—whether that’s good or bad. On the 21st, someone you never thought would notice you asks you on a date. Lean into your allure.
As Mercury goes retrograde in your financial sector on the 16th, you notice a lovely boost to your bank account. You’re feeling secure, so treat yourself to your favorite meal. But don’t go on a shopping spree. This Mercury retrograde can result in lots of money flowing in, but it can just as easily flow out. On the 21st, an unexpected expense at home forces you to spend more than you would have liked on a plumber or a handyman. Be cautious with your bounty.
