Queen Elizabeth Is Using Her Sandringham Estate as...a Drive-in Movie Theater?

Queen Elizabeth is using her traditional Christmas outpost, Sandringham Estate in King’s Lynn, Norfolk, for a new venture this month.

The gardens of the 94-year-old British monarch's home will host a special set of drive-in movie nights, according to Channel 3000. Per the outlet, each car costs about $35.

“Enjoy your favorite movie from the comfort of your car in the wonderful setting of Sandringham Country Park,” the estate said in a statement. “We have selected some great street food vendors to join us at each performance. Upgrade your ticket for just £7.50 [about $9] to add a deckchair, table, popcorn and a separate area to the side of your vehicle.”

And the film lineup is pretty stacked, including 1917,  Rocketman, Toy Story, The Greatest Showman, Moana, Grease, A Star Is Born and Bohemian Rhapsody

Sandringham’s gardens are ideal for this kind of outdoor event. The home features over 60 acres of lush gardens. Unfortunately, Liz won’t be there for the upcoming movie nights, considering she’s still enjoying her annual summer break at Balmoral Castle. And while she typically comes home in the autumn, that won’t be the case this year due to the pandemic. However, she will be returning to her Norfolk estate when the holidays roll around.

Elizabeth has visited the estate every Christmas of her entire life, which has become one of the most known family traditions. Not to mention, it’s also where Her Majesty gives the annual Christmas broadcast to the nation.

It looks like the drive-in movie attendees will hold down the fort until the queen’s return.
