A Body Language Expert Weighs in on Princess Beatrice & Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi’s Engagement Pics

Princess Beatrice and her beau of less than a year, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, are officially engaged, and we have photos to accompany the announcement.

Although the 31-year-old princess’s custom 3.5-carat sparkler and floral Zimmerman maxi dress were reason enough to ogle her engagement portraits, we couldn’t help but wonder what the couple’s body language says about their relatively private romance. So, we touched base with nonverbal communications expert, relationship coach and psychotherapist Toni Coleman, LCSW, CMC, to dig a little deeper. Here’s what she had to say about the newly engaged couple’s relationship.

Coleman was quick to point out the first photo effortlessly displays the couple’s level of intimacy. “Here the couple is standing very close, their bodies facing each other directly, as they maintain direct and unbroken eye contact—both of which demonstrate a desire for intimacy,” she said. “Both have full smiles on their faces that extend to their eyes, as opposed to half smiles that are put on for the camera.” Basically, they’re genuinely happy.

She then zoned in on Mapelli Mozzi’s head placement, which apparently means more than meets the eye. “As Edoardo is looking at Princess Beatrice, his head is tilted slightly to the side. This signal communicates interest in what he is seeing,” Coleman posited.

Coleman added, “Princess Beatrice has her hand on his shoulder with fingers bent as though she is grasping on to him. This signals a desire to get as close as possible and to hold someone.”

Coleman asserts that the second photo illustrates just as much care and romance between Princess Beatrice and the 34-year-old real estate mogul: “Though they are in an embrace here, Princess Beatrice is leaning in against Edoardo—a signal that she wants to be even closer physically. He is looking down at her and his mouth is touching her hair, a gesture that signifies sexual attraction and intimacy.” Ooo, la la!

She went on to say, “He also looks like he is pulling her in and leaning back, so she can fit in closer to him…Her expression is flirtatious and is telling the camera, ‘This is my guy.’”

Could they look any happier? Judging from Coleman’s explanation, it seems not.
