Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Surprise Fans at Elton John Concert with a Special Video

While Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have loads of high-profile friends, from Oprah Winfrey to Tyler Perry, we've known for a while now that Elton John is among them (and he may be one of their closest). From loaning the couple his private jet to performing at their wedding, the “Rocket Man” singer has done a lot for the pair. Now, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are returning the favor.

John is currently on what he says will be his final tour, titled Farewell Yellow Brick Road, and he recently made a stop at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. While there, the “Your Song” singer got a surprise gift from Prince Harry and Markle, who filmed a special video to honor the musical legend.

The clip that was broadcast to the audience was shared by the @Gertsroyals Twitter account, seen above. In the video, the Duchess of Sussex starts out by saying, “Hi Elton, we just wanted to say congratulations, and we are just so proud of you. We're so grateful that we were able to see you on your farewell tour also.”

Prince Harry then hopped in, adding, “And thank you for entertaining everybody for so many decades. Thank you for being the friend that you were for my mum, thank you for being our friend. Thank you for being friend to our kids and thank you for entertaining people right around the world. Even though this is officially your retirement, this will not be your last gig, we know that. But we love you and congratulations on an incredible career.”

Prince Harry's statement refers to the close relationship that existed between John and his late mother. The two became fast friends after bonding together at various events like Live Aid, and John rewrote his song “Candle in the Wind” as a tribute to her following her passing. He performed the song at her funeral as well.

Recently, on the 25th anniversary of Lady Di's passing, John shared a special throwback photo to Instagram of him and Princess Diana. In his caption, he wrote, “You will always be missed.”

We love to see that Elton has remained close with this family.
