Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Son Archie Was Nearly Given This Name Instead

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry almost chose a different name for little Archie? Do tell.

Over the weekend, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended a children’s reading event held at The Hague in the Netherlands. During the event, the duchess conversed with a parent who had a son named Harrison. As royal fans may know, Archie’s middle name is Harrison.

Sherry McBain and her wife Mandy brought their son Harrison to the reading session. She revealed to PA Media that her wife and Markle talked after learning their kids shared the same name.

“[Meghan] was like ‘Harrison, that’s Archie’s middle name’, and Mandy was like ‘Yeah, I know,’” she told the outlet. “They were just having a chat because Harry and Meghan couldn't decide between Archie and Harrison for the first name.”

Markle and Harry welcomed their son Archie on May 6, 2019. The young royal is getting bigger by the day—and royal fans have taken notice of how much he’s starting to resemble his father. Last year, the royal family released their annual Christmas card. Archie and Harry were having a little twin moment, in which they sported the same shaggy red hair.

Speaking of the duke, Harry gave a moving speech at this year’s Invictus Games. During the address, he mentioned Archie and revealed what his son wants to be when he grows up. The royal shared that he would like to be an astronaut or a helicopter pilot—even the cat detective, Kwazii, from the U.K. children’s cartoon Octonauts.

We love Archie and all, but Harrison would have been a good choice, too.
