Now that Prince Harry, 38, and Meghan Markle, 42, have mastered the art of making tell-all documentaries, the royal couple is venturing into fiction—and it looks like this particular project will hit close to home.

On Monday, Carley Fortune announced on Instagram that the duke and duchess secured the rights to her bestselling romance novel, Meet Me at the Lake. As it turns out, the book was published by Penguin Random House—the same company that released Harry’s bestselling memoir, Spare, earlier this year. "I never thought I’d be making this announcement," Fortune wrote, sharing a selfie while proudly displaying her book. "I’m thrilled to confirm that I’m teaming up with Netflix and Archewell Productions on the adaption of Meet Me at the Lake."

The author continued, "Will and Fern’s love story is dear to my heart, and I can’t imagine a more perfect partnership. Writing this book was a tremendous personal challenge, and to see it recognized in this way is truly incredible."

The book follows the unconventional love story of Will and Fern, who both have complicated pasts and are fighting to overcome their mental health issues. When they randomly reconnect about a decade after their spontaneous day-long adventure, they must decide if they want to pick up where they left off.

It's not surprising that the royal couple are fans of Fortune's book, given that the romantic tale bears some resemblance to Markle and Prince Harry's real-life love story. For instance, the main characters experience mental health challenges and grieve over the loss of a parent. Similarly, Markle has been very public about dealing with anxiety and depression in the past, while Harry grieved the loss of his mother, Princess Diana.

The news of the couple's Netflix adaptation comes eight months after the release of their intimate docuseries, Harry & Meghan, which became the streaming service's biggest documentary debut ever. Archewell Productions and Netflix also released the inspiring docuseries, Live to Lead, and the upcoming Heart of Invictus, done in partnership with the Invictus Games Foundation, is set to release later in 2023.

When Markle and Prince Harry announced their mega Netflix deal in 2020, they revealed their main focus would be "creating content that informs but also gives hope."

The statement read, "As new parents, making inspirational family programming is also important to us, as is powerful storytelling through a truthful and relatable lens. We are pleased to work with Ted and the team at Netflix whose unprecedented reach will help us share impactful content that unlocks action."

We'll keep our eyes open for all the deets on Meet Me at the Lake.
