As an avid traveler, Prince Harry has stayed in his fair share of hotels. (Yep, royal life isn’t all hobnobbing in palaces and luxury in-home yoga studios.) So when the 34-year-old Duke of Sussex spends time away from home for royal engagements, he makes a point to promote sustainability, one coffee cup at a time.
According to Prince Harry’s longtime friend, Argentine polo player Nacho Figueras, the duke pays a fair amount of attention to plastic usage in hotels and requests that they dial it down for the environment’s sake.
“[Harry] was there and we were at the hotel where we spent the night before the game,” Figueras explained during an interview with CBS This Morning. “He talked to a person and said, ‘This morning I got my coffee and I saw that you have a plastic thing on the coffee. And then I also sent my shirt and I got my shirt in a big plastic bag.’” He’s not wrong, there is a ton of plastic waste at hotels.
Figueras used this point to illustrate the kind of man Prince Harry is, saying, “So that’s this guy, OK. I don’t like to talk about that at all, that’s who he is. That’s who they are. No plastic.”
