If we had to guess which member of the British royal family is the biggest spender, we’d probably say Queen Elizabeth, since she’s required to carry out numerous duties. Our second prediction would be someone like Kate Middleton, who also attends a lot of outings (and looks good while doing it). However, according to this brand-new data, we stand corrected.
The royal family recently released its highly anticipated annual review, which breaks down all of their spending for the 2020-2021 financial year. Much to our surprise, the report revealed that—drumroll, please—Prince Charles had the most expensive trip. (Read the full review here.)
The outing took place in October 2020 when Prince Charles flew to Kuwait and racked up a £58,993 (about $82,000) bill. It’s important to note that the visit was for a really good cause, since it was in response to the death of Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah.
Still, the price tag is much higher than the second most expensive trip, courtesy of Prince William and Kate Middleton. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge spent around $66,700 when they embarked on a royal train tour across Edinburgh, Manchester, Berwick, Batley, Cardiff, Bath Spa and Windsor.
