Rule of Three: Pink Poufy Dresses Are Having a Major Moment Right Now Thanks to Lady Gaga & More

Rule of Three is a new franchise from PureWow that points out nascent trends before they’re all over your Instagram feed. Why Rule of Three? Well, it’s not a “trend” until a few (at least three) very familiar faces hop on board.

The words “pink poufy dress” give us serious ’80s prom flashbacks, complete with crimped hair and teal eye shadow. But it’s 2019, baby, and the pink poufy dress is back. Just ask Lady Gaga, singer Dua Lip and model Coco Rocha, who recently stepped out in their own little big pink dresses.

Unlike the belted blazer or Gianvito Rossi Plexi pump, we don’t foresee this Rule of Three making a move into the mainstream. But hey, who doesn’t love a bold look?

Dua Lipa In Calvin Klein

The “One Kiss” singer kicked off the pink poofy dress resurgence on March 25 with a hot pink feathered Calvin Klein minidress from the 2019 pre-fall collection. (It’s worth noting this dress was worn bowling. Yes, like the kind with pins and ugly shoes.) She accessorized the eye-catching dress with Aquazzura Sundance plateau 140 sandals, which are now a cool 40 percent off (originally $895, now $537) online, and cinched the dress with a black belt. As if the pink number wasn’t enough, the 23-year-old musician also upped the ante with a fierce smoky cat eye. Now, we can all agree feathered minidresses aren’t suitable for most occasions, but she definitely rocked it.

Lady Gaga In Brandon Maxwell

Despite her A Star Is Born style transformation, Lady Gaga, 33, is still a maximalist at heart. Case in point? The 2019 Met Gala on May 6, which she co-hosted. Mother Monster’s first of four red-carpet outfits was a voluminous fuchsia Brandon Maxwell design, featuring an extravagant train carried by four assistants wielding umbrellas. And we’d be remiss not to mention the puff sleeves, corresponding bow headpiece and the eerie doll-like lashes she donned for the event. Simply put, the Camp: Notes on Fashion theme was made for Gaga.

Coco Rocha In Ashi Studio Couture

On the other side of the world, 30-year-old model Coco Rocha floated into the amfAR gala in Cannes, France, on May 24 on her own cloud of pink. Rocha wore Ashi Studio Couture from the 2019 spring/summer collection. Although the billowing train was reminiscent of Gaga’s Brandon Maxwell gown, Rocha’s dress presented a high-low front and split sweetheart neckline. Suffice it to say, the look was all drama, from her Alevì Milano shoes to her Burma Paris jewels and that sassy top knot.

The question remains: Will you try a poofy pink dress of your own?
