Another day, another royal baby.
Over the weekend, Nicholas of Romania announced that he and his wife, Alina-Maria, welcomed their first child together: a baby girl named Maria Alexandra.
The proud dad announced the exciting news on social media and shared an official statement, which read: “It gives me great pleasure to announce the birth of my daughter, Maria Alexandra, on 7th November at 20:05 at the Polizu Hospital in Bucharest. Alina-Maria and our daughter are both well and healthy.”
It continued, “This is a very special moment for our family, and we are grateful for the support and shared excitement of Romanians, but especially the efforts of the medical staff during these challenging times.”
Nicholas was third in line to the now-defunct throne of Romania. Although the royal family doesn’t carry out official duties, Crown Princess Margareta has been the Head of the House of Romania ever since her father’s death in 2017. Princess Elena (Nicholas’s mom) is her heir apparent.
Back in October 2017, Nicholas tied the knot with Alina-Maria in a civil ceremony in London. One year later, they hosted a religious ceremony in Sinaia, Romania, with their closest friends and family.
We first learned about the couple’s pregnancy back in June when they released a statement. It read, “It gives me great pleasure to share the joy that my wife, Alina-Maria, is pregnant with our first child. The birth is expected in November. Our child will be brought up with the respect for our ancestors and their traditional values in the spirit of responsibility and love towards our country and in the faith that myself and my grandfather, King Michael was baptized.”
Cheers to growing royal families!
