Meghan Markle Wore a Denim Dress and Sweater to Watch Tennis in NYC, and It Might've Been a Clap-Back at Her Haters

Make way, make way, for the Duchess of Sporting Events.

Meghan Markle, who flew commercial to NYC on Friday to watch her pal Serena Williams in the U.S. Open (Serena lost the finals to 19-year-old Canadian Bianca Andreescu), wore a laidback denim dress and buttonless cardigan to the match on Saturday, and both retail for less than $200.

The duchess wore the Juliette Collarless Sweater Blazer in gray ($148) and Belted Denim Shirtdress ($118), but, sadly, both are currently sold out (fingers crossed for a J.Crew re-stock soon).

Markle also wore a delicate gold necklace with tiny "A" and "H" initials on it, and carried a Carolina Herrera bag that she wore previously during her last trip to the U.S. for her New York City baby shower in February. The duchess also slid a pair of Victoria Beckham Navigators sunglasses ($240) onto the front of her dress.

The denim shirtdress has a few royal fans taking note: In July, during her first Wimbledon appearance, Markle wore denim jeans and a pinstripe white blazer, and received a few critical comments about the casualness of denim jeans at a fancy schmancy event like Wimbledon. (For context, Kate Middleton always opts for dresses during her many Wimbledon appearances.)

Was Markle calling out her critics from Wimbledon by wearing a denim shirtdress to the U.S. Open on September 7?
