Meghan Markle and Prince Harry only announced their new podcast deal with Spotify yesterday, but we already have a preview clip of what’s to come.
On Tuesday, we learned that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex signed an exclusive, multi-year deal with Spotify and “will host and produce podcasts that build community through shared experience, narratives and values.” While the first complete series from Archewell Audio isn't expected until next year, the pair will release a holiday special at the end of this month. So, to promote their latest endeavor, the couple shared a quick teaser on the Spotify app. And we couldn’t help but notice the flirty banter taking place between the two.
“Should we start? No? Ladies first,” says Prince Harry to his wife in the preview clip. The duchess then sweetly replies, “No, say it. I think it sounds really nice when you say it with your accent.”
“Archewell Audio,” he says soothingly before beginning their introductions (as simply Harry and Meghan). Well, she wasn’t wrong.
During the clip, Markle also introduced the inspiration behind the project. “One of the things my husband and I have always talked about is our passion for meeting people and hearing their stories. And no matter what the story, they usually offer you an understanding of where someone else is coming from, and, at the same time, remind you in some way, of a story about yourself.”
Harry continued, “And that’s what this project is all about—to bring different perspectives and voices that perhaps you haven’t heard before and find our common ground.”
In addition to their preview, the former royal couple also revealed a joint statement in a press release: “What we love about podcasting is that it reminds all of us to take a moment and to really listen, to connect to one another without distraction. With the challenges of 2020, there has never been a more important time to do so, because when we hear each other, and hear each other’s stories, we are reminded of how interconnected we all are.”
