Meghan Markle’s Good Pal Stands Behind the Duke and Duchess of Sussex

Whether you’re in the midst of tough times or on top of the world, a good friend has your back and sings your praises. And amidst Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s announcement that they’ve decided to step back from their roles as senior members of the royal family, the 38-year-old Duchess of Sussex’s longtime pal Jessica Mulroney has done just that.

The Canadian stylist and brand strategist showed her support for Markle and her 35-year-old husband with a single, well-chosen Instagram quote.

Last night, after the news of the Sussex’s decision broke, Mulroney shared a still image of a quote from female filmmaker Gina Carey. It read, “A strong woman looks a challenge in the eye and gives it a wink.” Mulroney didn’t explicitly name the couple or include a caption and she turned comments off, but her positive message was heard loud and clear.

This isn’t the first time Mulroney has publicly championed the couple’s decision to lead a more normal(ish) life. She commented on journalist Katie Couric’s Instagram post about the announcement, which read, “What do you think of this announcement?” with a heart emoji. She also liked the duke and duchess’s formal Instagram announcement and has been vocal in her support for Markle in the past.

Although Mulroney has respected the couple’s privacy and has yet to make a more direct comment about her feelings on her friend’s decision, it’s clear she stands behind Markle and Prince Harry’s choice to split their time between the United Kingdom and Canada.

On the plus side, they’ll presumably be able to hang out more now that they’re both in the same country.
