It's not every day that you win an Oscar and get a shoutout from a royal, but author Charlie Mackesy (who wrote The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse) experienced exactly that.

Mackesy recently adapted his bestselling 2019 picture book into an animated short film for Apple TV+. The movie was produced by Matthew Freud, among others.

Following Mackesy and Freud's win, King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla used their Twitter account to congratulate the author. “He won!” the tweet read. “Huge congratulations to Charlie, who has been a big supporter of @queensreadroom since its inception.”

The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film, beating out The Flying Sailor, Ice Merchants, My Year of Dicks and An Ostrich Told Me the World Is Fake and I Think I Believe It.

Mackesy made history last night with his win, as The Boy... became the longest running short film to ever win the prize, clocking in at 34 minutes.

In case you're unaware, the Queen's Reading Room is a charity that was founded by the Queen consort, that seeks to provide literary content to adults and help them connect with books.

On the charity's website, Bowles writes, “With their extraordinary power to educate and inspire, books—from authors around the globe—have enriched my life since I was a child. It has therefore been such a joy to watch my Reading Room grow over the years into a thriving book community. Now a charity, I hope that we, together with our partners, can foster in adults and children alike a lifelong love of literature and connect more people with that special magic that can only be found in the leaves of a book.”

Congrats to Mackesy, Freud and all of the Oscars winners!
