Rule of Three: Jessica Alba, Molly Sims & More Are Loving 2-Piece Polka-Dot Sets for Summer

Rule of Three is a new franchise from PureWow that points out nascent trends before they’re all over your Instagram feed. Why Rule of Three? Well, it’s not a “trend” until a few (at least three) very familiar faces hop on board.   

Polka dots have been a thing since, like, ever. One woman’s itsy-bitsy-teenie-weenie yellow polka-dot bikini inspired a whole Brian Hyland song in 1960. Princess Diana rocked the print frequently in the ’90s and now everyone from Kate Middleton to Big Little Lies star Laura Dern is wearing dots on the reg.

This summer L.A.’s Finest star Jessica Alba, former Las Vegas actress Molly Sims and Vampire Diaries alum Nina Dobrev put their own twist on the trend and beating the heat with two-piece polka-dots sets.

Sims, 46, wore the Le Marais Marin skirt in lemon dot ($149) and matching Boulevards cropped top ($109) during a quick Memorial Day weekend trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, this past May. She paired the easy-breezy ensemble with mirrored circular sunglasses, a tangle of dainty necklaces and bracelets, a nude mani and bare feet. It was basically all the beach vacay inspo we needed before summer began.

While in France earlier this month, Dobrev lived her best vacation life in a Quiz Clothing royal blue polka-dot crop top ($32) and frill shorts set ($36). The wrap-style top paired with the tie-waist shorts offered all of the fun flirtatiousness of a romper with even more ease and movement. The 30-year-old actress paired the set with an on-trend wicker purse, white sneakers, circular sunglasses and a floppy straw hat.
