Gal Gadot Says Princess Diana Inspired Her Portrayal of Wonder Woman

It seems Wonder Woman and Princess Diana have more in common than you might think.

Gal Gadot, who has portrayed DC's Wonder Woman since 2016, recently revealed to Vanity Fair that the late Princess of Wales acted as an inspiration when getting into character.

The 35-year-old actress said, "I remember watching a documentary about Princess Diana and there was a part where they said she was full of compassion and always cared for the people...and that was like: 'Ding, ding, ding!' That should be the Wonder Woman we have."

Gadot said that when she was playing the role of Wonder Woman, she asked herself, "How can you connect to a goddess that's super strong and has it all and [is] super perfect?" Apparently, the Princess of Wales was the ideal source of inspiration. Gadot added, "I wanted to show [Princess Diana's] vulnerabilities and heart."

The royal influences must be working for her. 2017's Wonder Woman was critically-acclaimed and one of the highest-grossing movies of that year. Gadot reprised the role in last year's Wonder Woman 1984 and in Zack Snyder's Justice League, which came out just last month. A third Wonder Woman film has already been greenlit, with director and writer Patty Jenkins returning to guide Gadot in another superhero smash.

Coincidence Gadot's character is also named Diana? Hmm...
