Have you ever oogled a minimalist matte black dining table or lacquered art deco bar cart and thought, ugh, if only I could use this outside? You’re not alone. That’s why we are obsessed with this year’s metal outdoor furniture trend. “This simple, unassuming material is getting a makeover, thanks to vibrant colors and textured finishes,” says Wayfair interior designer Olivia Giacobbe. In the past, we’ve equated metal outdoor furniture with rusty chunks of iron that give you tetanus just by looking at them (let alone sitting on them). However, today’s iterations pull from contemporary design styles with powder-coated steel finishes that can withstand harsh UV light and rain.
As interior trends like Bauhaus and Mid-Century Modern gain popularity on TikTok and Instagram, it’s no wonder that metallic furniture is becoming a designer favorite in all areas of the home. “Brass has been the it metal over the last decade, but shiny, silver-toned metals are making a comeback,” says lifestyle and interiors writer Kaitlin Madden. “I think it’s because they pair beautifully and add nice contrast to all of the warmer-toned colors coming on the scene.”
