Viola Davis and Oprah Winfrey Are Teaming Up for a Special on Netflix

We've been waiting on pins and needles for Viola Davis’s new Showtime series, The First Lady, which is set to premiere on April 17 with Davis starring as former first lady Michelle Obama. But that isn't the only project the Oscar winner has lined up this month. The Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom actress is teaming up with Oprah Winfrey for a new special coming to Netflix called Oprah + Viola: A Netflix Special Event.

Per POPSUGAR, the special will feature the former talk show host and the author discussing Davis’s new memoir, Finding Me, which will be available to purchase on April 26 (you can pre-order the book here).

Netflix released an official press release about the show, which read: “For the first time, Viola shares memories of her childhood marked with unimaginable poverty, disturbing abuse and ‘all the things that cause you pain.’ Viola reveals how ‘giving up hope that the past could be different’ has brought her peace, forgiveness and a sense of self. Viola also explains how she manifested the loves in her life and what it took to become one of the most celebrated and talented actresses of our time.”

Oprah + Viola: A Netflix Special Event will premiere on Netflix on April 22. The forty-eight-minute special will give fans an inside look into the actress’s upbringing, career and so much more. The televised event is executive produced by Tara Montgomery and Terry Wood, through Harpo Productions.
