Netflix's New #1 Show Is Like 'The Hunger Games' (Only Way More Terrifying and Way More Intense)

Looking for a new drama to add to your Netflix queue? This Korean thriller might be exactly what you’ve been searching for.

The streaming platform released the new series, Squid Game, over the weekend and it’s already landed the top spot on Netflix’s most popular TV shows list. The Korean drama series follows 456 desperate contestants who compete with each other in a mysterious and deadly survival challenge involving multiple rounds of childhood games. The good news? If they win, they get $45.6 billion that can help them pay off their debts. The only other option? Death.

The trailer features the contestants who “have lived dangerously” being brought into the games. And it's not long before they learn that winning is their only chance of survival. (We’re obviously getting all the Hunger Games vibes.)

Watch the intense footage below.

Netflix’s official synopsis reads, “A mysterious invitation to join the game is sent to people at risk who are in dire need of money. 456 participants from all walks of life are locked into a secret location where they play games in order to win 45.6 billion won. Every game is a Korean traditional children's game such as Red Light, Green Light, but the consequence of losing is death. Who will be the winner, and what is the purpose behind this game?”

We’re not entirely surprised that the show made its way to the top 10 list so quickly, considering it received an impressive score of 100 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

With a score like that, we’re definitely giving it a shot.
